I think these two cubs (Eremet and Arbalet) are just about ready to be weaned. Maybe their mom (Pike) will realize it's time to cut the cord when they start having their own cubs. They look huge!

This is one of the things that made me love hyenas: their extended suckling period. I know it's foolishly anthropomorphic of me to think this means every Momma Hyena loves her cubs like mad, but—well, assuming they have subjective experience and that subjective experience includes states akin to human emotions (yeah, big ifs, but) what's the likely subjective experience Pike is experiencing now?
I think some of the most beautiful and moving images of motherhood I've encounter have been of hyenas and their cubs.
